Following the development of the National Strategic Health Development Plan (NSHDP) 2010-2015; platforms such as Donor Coordination Forums have been established to ensure its successful domestication in Kaduna and Kano States. These forums are aimed at ensuring effective use of external aid and elimination of duplications in programming, amongst other objectives.
Thus, Partnership for Transforming Health Systems II (PATHS II) contracted Dr Nkem Ene of Preston Healthcare Consulting Ltd. to review the current landscape of Donor Coordination in Kano and Kaduna States in an attempt to recommend modalities for streamlining existing and resulting Coordination Frameworks.
This project involved a Review of State Government policy documents (including health related bills and laws), operational plans, and project papers, amongst other documents, as well as the conduction of Key Informant Interviews with personnel from Government (State Ministry Of Health and other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies), Donor Agencies, and Traditional Rulers, amongst others, in Kano and Kaduna States. Finally, an extensive scholarly review of sector coordination experiences in other developing countries and an interactive workshop for key stakeholders were conducted.
